Mitzvah Projects with Good Karma
A Bar or Bat Mitzvah marks an important milestone—one rooted in responsibility, compassion, and giving back. Our Bar/Bat Mitzvah Program offers students the opportunity to turn this meaningful moment into a hands-on mitzvah by helping animals in need through Good Karma Pet Rescue.
Participants can choose from a variety of service and fundraising opportunities that support our lifesaving work, from helping care for homeless animals to raising funds for medical care, food, and rescue efforts. Each project can be tailored to align with the student’s interests and passions while reinforcing the values of kindness, empathy, and ‘tikkun olam’.
Completed Mitzvah Project organizers are recognized with a certificate, t-shirt, thank-yous on our social media, and lots of gratitude from the folks at Good Karma.
Mitzvah Project Inspiration
Here are some projects you can undertake to help our rescue animals as they wait for their forever homes:
Create a Mitzvah Fundraiser: Create your own online fundraising page to collect donations for the animals in our care. Every contribution will go directly toward providing food, vaccines, medical care, and other essential needs for our animals. Create your own fundraising page by going to this page, then clicking Create My Own Fundraising Page!
Plan a Pet Supply Drive: Organize a pet supply drive to collect items for the animals in our rescue. These items help ensure they receive the care and attention they need while waiting for adoption. A wish list of most-needed supplies is below.
Plan a Sneaker Drive: Collect used sneakers for charity!. We have established a relationship with a company called GotSneakers?. They collect and redistribute or recycle new and used sneakers based on their condition. We accept all brands and all conditions. Sneakers that are not wearable are given to a renewable energy facility where they are broken down and the materials are used to provide clean, renewable energy throughout Florida, keeping them out of the landfills. Learn more about our GotSneakers program here.
Foster a Dog or Cat: As a foster-based rescue, we rely on individuals like you to provide temporary homes for animals in need. By fostering a dog or cat, you’ll be offering them a safe and loving environment until they find their forever homes. Good Karma provides all necessary supplies—including food, litter, leashes, preventive medications, and veterinary care—while you offer the love. Learn more and apply to foster on our Fostering page or contact us for more information.
Volunteer at a Cattery: Our catteries are temporary homes for our foster cats, located in local pet stores, where they stay for up to two weeks to increase their chances of adoption. Volunteers play an essential role by feeding, cleaning, and socializing the cats during their stay. To get involved, fill out our Volunteer Application. Note: A parent must be present while volunteering at a cattery.
These projects provide meaningful ways to help animals in need while celebrating your special day. Whether you choose to fundraise, collect supplies, foster, or volunteer, your efforts will make a lasting impact on the lives of animals waiting for their forever homes.
